Recap/Review

Episode 3

Clary is distraught about Simon being missing, and confused about her mother missing, Valentine as her father, the Mortal Cup, and her new discovery of her being a Shadowhunter.

At Hotel Dumort, the vampires hotel Simon is being held hostage by Raphael. Simon tries to escape but he fails.

(I really don’t care for the title sequence but I’m glad it is not long.)

The Shadowhunters search the cemetery for weapons so they can go get Simon back. Alec voices his concerns about Clary by saying to Jace he is only in it to get laid. The first mention of Parabatai is brought up when Alec reminds Jace that he trusts him as they are Parabatai. Jace then shows Clary how to wield as Shadowhunters sword (This is the first time that I actually believed that Dominic was Jace, he is so passionate when teaches Clary  to use the sword.) Jace explains what Parabatai means to Clary, he tells her is it is a bond stronger than friendship, if one dies the other will never be the same, a part of them dies too.

Back at Hotel Dumort Camille, the leader of the vampires freezes Simon and Raphael voices his doubts in Camille’s plan of capturing the mundane and luring Clary to the Hotel. Knowing this plan will turn the shadowhunters agains them. Camille ignores his concerns.

Isabelle goes to see Meliorn her Seelie fling to get information out of him. she does this by trying to seduce him (what a surprise) but being a cunning Seelie he uses his charm to get information about Clary. Isabelle gets information about how to get into the hotel. (The Seelie can’t lie but they are very cunning and good at wordplay.)

Jace takes Clary to a Vampire biker bar and bets she can’t seduce one of them, (yup… more seduction…) Clary goes for it. She was almost immediately Incantoed (Incantoing is when a vampire glamors, makes you obey them.) by the vampire Jace comes over beats the guys ass steals his motorcycle keys and him and Clary take off on the bike, which we find out DOES FLY!!!

Back at Hotel Dumort Camille has Incantoed Simon and is now kissing and distracting him. From Simon Camille finds out that Clary does not know where the Mortal cup is. (Sex appeal gets you what ever you want in this show.)

Back at the Shadowhunters base Hodge finds Alec and basically tells him to take the lead and push Jace out of the spotlight. Hodge seems very bitter, he tells Alec not to end up like him. Alec grabs his crossbow and heads to the Hotel.

Isabelle and Alec go in together by a service entrance and Clary and Jace go in through the back. Isabelle and Alec end up fighting threw a lot of vampires to get to Clary and Jace. Jace and Clary are fighting vampires when Clary over estimates her self and gets caught by a vampire. Alec comes in all bad ass and saves her (I’m sure he would have rather let her die..)

Simon again tries to escape and fails. Camille the leader of the vampires leaves to keep her self safe when she finds out the Shadowhunters were in the hotel. She tells Raphael to kill Simon. The Shadowhunters find Raphael and he by taking Simon hostage he forces all the Shadowhunters to go on the roof and he lets them take Simon. Raphael made sure the shadowhunters knew he did it to keep their truce.

Clary and Simon share a very romantic friend zone moment. It was actually quite sad, I could see the joy melt out of Simons eyes when she said best friend.

The episode ends with Clary staring at Jace and Simon staring at Clary’s Vein…. I think its vampire time…

I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT EPISODE!!!! I’m so excited for vampire simon!

Episode 2 – The Descent into Hell is Easy

Shadowhunters
Season 1
Episode 2 – The Descent to Hell is Easy
Oringinal Air Date 01/19/16

This week I will be working my Review and Recap into one section.

Episode 2

At the start of the episode Clary, Jace, and Simon go in to what looks like an abandoned church to Simon but is revealed to the the Shadowhunters Headquarters. (Simon is like WHAT!!! 😧) From the beginning Isabelle is all over Simon, she offers to watch him while Clary and Jace go to the training  room to see Hodge, there caretaker(?) Hodge is a lot younger than I would have pictured him to be. Hodge tells clary some information about the circle but at a cost to himself. Hodge has a (mysterious) Spell on him that causes him pain when he tries to talk about the circle or Valentine.

Luke who has attacked someone that was about to kill a warlock in a parking garage. Dot goes to see luke and asks where Clary is, Dot then hints to Luke that she doesn’t trust him.

Back to Simon and Isabelle, Simon is in Isabelle’s bedroom when he voices his concern about Jace’s ability to take care of Clary. Isabelle decides the best way to convince Simon is to tell him all the great things about Jace as she sexily pushes him onto her bed to… serve him dinner… okay. (Weird? Also I’m not sure why Isabelle is super fast, I know shadowhunters are fast but it never said that fast… Sizzy, for real.)
sizzy
Clary has a vision of Dot being taken by Valentines men (What!!! Clary can have visions… pretty cool.) Jace and Clary realize that her memories are being blocked so they head to the Silent City to see the Silent Brothers (The Silent Brothers have the power to help Clary access her blocked memories.)

Luke’s boss informs him that two of his case witnesses have turned up dead, on being the girl Luke killed earlier in the episode. (Now I’m not sure if this is a police station of all werewolves but his boss hints that Luke had something to do with the murders.) After his boss leaves his coworker comes over and knowing Luke had something to do with the murders he questions him, Luke says it was self defense.

Clary and Jace leave Simon, Isabelle, and Alec outside of the entrance to the Silent City as Simon can’t enter, of course Isabelle offers to look over him. Clary and Jace head in and Clary tries to apologize for assuming she new more about him than she did. (Up until now Jace has been nice, very mildly snarky, and really accepting of Clary.) Now out of no where he decides to be an ass saying “It’s cute you assume I have feelings, I don’t” and then like 5 seconds later he is holding her hand!!!? (Come on Dominic, I know you can do better than that. MAKE ME BELIEVE YOU ARE JACE!)
tumblr_o0vio8rug21qddvy9o3_500We are now introduced to the Silent Brothers and they look… eww. They look like how I imagined them to look, I am very happy about this. They were eerie and made you feel uncomfortable. The Silent Brothers use the Mortal Sword/Soul Sword to unblock Clarys memories and it is revealed to her that Valentine is her father. (If you don’t want your daughter to find out about Shadowhunters then why have the fricken conversation in her bedroom doorway, yea I get that Jocelyn thought she was sleeping but it is still a stupid place to have that conversation. But for television purposes it gives Clary the information quickly.) Upon finding this news out Clary (dramatically) runs out of the Silent city.

The scene cuts to Valentine and we are made to believe that Dot is dead. (as her death was not shown on screen I still think she is alive)

Clary runs out of the Silent City to find out that Simon has been taken by a Vampire named Raphael and the only way to get him back is to trade for the Mortal Cup.

I love seeing Magnus his glitter, eyeliner, hair, outfits, everything they look so MAGNUS!

Right now my biggest issue with the show is I need to believe that these actors are really the characters that they are trying to portray. As of now I am only finding Luke, Valentine, and Jocelyn(who’s still in a sleep spell) 100% believable as there characters. I am on the fence about Simon, I like him a lot and I think Alberto is doing a great job but sometimes he is not believable as Simon. I think a lot of this has to do with the script and the word choices for the characters. I don’t believe that Dominic (Jace) Katherine (Clary) or Emeraude (Isabelle) are a good matches for their characters. I think people like them because they are hot and with Isabelle barely wearing any cloths I can’t blame people for liking her.

I also tend to dress like this around my brothers too….. not.

I give this episode a 6/10 I think Luke, Magnus, and Simons characters are very likable and believable. I am extremely turned off by the fact that they are using Isabelle as a sex symbol. I hope that Katherine and Dominic find their niche for there characters soon because I don’t know how many seasons of subpar acting the fans can take.

The critics’ consensus reads: “Shadowhunters boasts visual thrills and a potential-rich premise, but they’re not enough to overcome the show’s self-serious silliness and dull, convoluted plots.”

According to the New York Times, the show “has its assets, especially its popular source material. But it might become more fun if it learns to enjoy being the empowerment fantasy it really is.”

There is good information in the book I just hope the everyone involved with the Shadowhunters show can deliver.

What did you think of the second episode? Do you think the show will make it to season 2? Let me know what you think in a comment!!!

Thank you!!!

Episode 1 – The Mortal Cup

Alright, I’m not new to The Mortal Instruments series. I have read all the books (including The Infernal Devices series) and seen the movie.

Episode Recap

The episode opens showing us three shadowhunters, the Lightwoods and Jace hunting a demon. After running into Clary Fray Jace is surprised she can see him.
Eight hours later flashes on the screen.
Clary heads to a coffee shop to tell her best friend Simon Lewis that she has been excepted to Brooklyn school of Art.
The scene then flashes to a crime scene where Luke Garroway, an officer is examining a body drained of blood.
At home Jocelyn, Clarys mother tries to talk to her but Clary waives her off.
Jocelyn has a flash back to 10 years ago, of her and Clary at a park, Clary gets attacked by a demon and Jocelyn saves her. Not wanting Clary to know about the Shadowhunter world she takes her to Magnus Bane to have her memory modified.
After another failed attempt to talk to Clary she heads out to see Simons band play.
The scene then changes to the Shadowhunters Jace, Alec, and Isabelle at there headquarters. They are trying to figure out why demons are draining mundanes (humans) of their blood. To find more answers they head out to Pandemonium a night club.

After Simons show that is when Jace runs into Clary. Jace is surprised that Clary can see him as mundanes can’t see Shadowhunters when they are disguised. After the Jaces odd behavior Clary follows him into the club. In Pandemonium the Shadowhunters track the demons to a backroom. Clary follows, and tries to save the girl Jace is planning to kill. Clary then realizes its not a girl but a demon. This being the first demon she remembers seeing she is shocked. A fight breaks out and by accident Clary kills the demon. Clary bolts as the Shadowhunters finish off the demons. In a panic Clary hops in a cab ignoring her friends calls.

At home Jocelyn tries to explain everything to a stunned Clary. Inturpted by an attack  Jocelyn sends Clary through a portal to Luke at the police station. Jocelyn sets fire to the apartment, and after learning Valentine is still alive she drinks a sleeping potion.

At the police station Clary thinks Luke is betraying her and flees. She heads back to her ransacked house finding her mom missing. She is attacked by a demon impersonating Dot, Jace shows up and kills the demons. Jace then takes Clary back to the headquarters and heals her wounds. While she is there Simon calls her, he said he tracked her phone to this building. Being Mundane he sees it as an abandoned church. She heads out to see him. After another attack Jace is forced to show himself to a panicking Simon. Jace tells Clary that she is a Shadowhunter and that he will keep her safe.

The last scene is back to Valentine, his minion informs him he couldn’t get the Mortal Cup but he informs Valentine that Jocelyn has a daughter.

Episode Review

*WARNING – I am very opinionated*

-First of all I didn’t know Isabelle Lightwood was supposed to look like a stripper… throughout the whole episode she dresses like a floozy. In the book her appearance was the always dressed nice, and almost always wore a dress (it never said she dressed in … well… this.)

shadowhunters-1x01-5

-Another thing I really dislike about the TV show is Jace is way nicer to her than he is in the book. I loved Jace in the books he is snarky, conceited, rude, and sexy. TV Jace is sexy but with when he tries to be snarky or conceited he sounds… stupid I don’t know if its bad lines or a bad actor but he sounds like he’s trying to hard. When I watch the show I don’t believe that Dominic Sherwood is Jace, he seems like he is a half-assed Jace. When I watched the movie I believed that Jamie Bower Campbell was Jace, Jamie had the perfect attitude and perfect amount of sass.

– Alright …. who were all those people in the Shadowhunters (headquarters…? home….) why were they there…

-Valentine, I don’t know if I like Alan Van Sprang of if so far i’m just intimidated by him.

-Clary…. I liked the actress she looks the part (even though they still can’t get the hair right… ) how hard is it to get RED hair. NOT brown red NOT orange…. WTF. I also think Lily Collins is WAY hotter and a better actress. Also did they have book Clary be 18 so they could over sexualize her on tv….. because book clary was like what 16 at the beginning.

I get that ABC Family is Now Freeform (my guess was so they can show more risqué things, which was proven in the first episode with Isabelle and clary looking like dominatrix’s.)

blog

Being a TV show and having way more time to explain things than in a movie I felt that they rushed through a ton of stuff. They could have easily made the first season the first book.

-Yes I know this is based off events and characters in the book and not an exact replica but HELLLLOOOO fans what the book, we want the book explained in live action. We get pissed when simple things are skipped, rushed, or wrongly explained. I just don’t get why it is so hard to keep to the original story. Its not like there is anything in the first book that wouldn’t have translated well to screen(when Jace and Clary think they are siblings but still continue ogling each other…. that will be weird to see on screen.)

I could go on FOR DAYS about what I didn’t like …. 😓 so I’m going to say somethings I did like…

Luke… I’ll admit I have always pictured him as white but I think the actor they picked is great, he has a very commanding, dominant attitude that is perfect for a werewolf. I also like that he is a police officer, not sure why but I do.

MAGNUS BANE – I love him! I adored Godfrey Gao (movie magnus) as this character but I am loving Harry Shum, he looks the part the makeup is on the outfits are great. I like movie Magnus (but alls what they did is give him a little eyeliner and have him not wear pants…why?) I think  TV Magnus is much more believable.

Pandemonium – I liked the club it looked like what I thought a downworlder/human club would look like.

Jocelyn – I think Maxim Roy is a great choice as her I also like that Maxim and Katherine’s eyes look the same color. I didn’t like that Jocelyn was trying to tell Clary about the shadowhunter world when in the book she had no intention of telling Clary.

There isn’t too many things that I really liked about the show except that I was happy that The Mortal Instruments series was getting another shot after the movie failed… Which so far I think the movie is 10x better than this show. The actors for the movie were great and believable I honestly just think it wasn’t the right time for that movie to be released.

Things I don’t have much of an opinion on…

-I don’t have too much to say about Alec as he didn’t have enough screen time for me to form an opinion.
-Umm Maureen (who the f*ck are you?)
-Hodge – I wanted you to be old… I really wanted you to be Michael Caine (Alfred in Batman) or Woodhouse (Archer hahah)

While watching I try to tell my self that his is Shadowhunter, not The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones movie and not The Mortal Instruments book series but its hard when they could have changed small things to make it more true to the fans.

Overall I would give the first episode at 5/10. I like some characters (Magnus <3)but there is still a lot I didn’t like.  I will continue watching and doing my recap/review of the show so I hope you will continue to read.

So did you like the show? Have you read the books or seen the movie? What did you like and dislike about the tv show? Drop me a comment!!! So we can discuss it!

And remember …….

No one will top Jamie Bower Campbell and Lily Collins as Jace and Clary.
